On days like these I ask myself will I ever get married?
I am almost close to asking the Powers that be to make sure that I remain a spinster, No drama, no heartache and no weeping. I am probably the most romantic person I know, but with the rapes, the passion Killings, the spreading of HIV and young women selling themselves as commodities, Can you Blame me?
I am a 90s child, I was born into a newly independent Namibia, and Life was good. Family Norms and Culture were upheld, Men were heads of their Households, the women the nurturers and the children they fell into place. Morals and Principals were deeply ingrained into us children, "how hard work does not kill, How true success is achieved only by working hard, how one should Respect ones body until marriage, Education is the key, One must appreciate the little one has " I could go on and on, My point is our parents did their part. I scratch my head and wonder were did we go wrong? When did things start fallling apart in Namibia Society.
When men Of the land of the brave started fathering a string of children with multiple partners, and they than continued to ignore their paternal duties and only remembered their offspring on Graduation day?? and than the women started dumping these fatherless children with their grandparents, and the children were subjected to a childhood of poverty? or maybe it started when the youth at the time started deviating from family life as was the norm and took up promiscuous behavior, which had dire consequences, HIV? When men /women engaged in casual sex, dont even mention Contraceptives, Or maybe when they were so conceited and arrogant, They ignored how deadly the disease was and let it spread?
When did my society start falling apart? My heart weeps, this is not the Namibia I envision for my Children. How can it be, I grew up in a beautiful Namibia and this, this is not it, not even a shadow close.
I think its time we started cleaning house? To press refresh , and work on our family lives, I see so many broken homes, children abondoned by their parents, and as much as we want to reach 2030, How can we, when we as A nation, Society, a community are failing to take care of the each other, as human beings, our physical and n emotional well being? Do we expect to last? Do we want to last? Its time we went back tot he drawing board, Namibia needs to heal!!
